Do you have extra fabric or clothes at home and don’t know what to do with them? Then, follow along as we create simple and practical handicrafts together – the entire process of making a pillow.
Materials Needed:
– Cutting mat
– Cutting knife
– Two pieces of fabric of the same size (for the front and back of the pillow)
– Filling material (such as polyester fiber)
– Sewing machine or needle and thread
– Zipper (optional, for decoration or to facilitate opening the pillow for cleaning)
1. Cut the fabric: First, use a cutting knife on the cutting mat to cut the two pieces of fabric into the same size and shape. Usually, the size of a pillow ranges from 40 cm x 40 cm to 60 cm x 60 cm, but it can be adjusted according to personal preferences and needs.
2. Prepare the zipper: If you choose to use a zipper, fold one side of a piece of fabric about 7 mm, then align the front side of the zipper with the fabric and sew it with a sewing machine or needle and thread. Do the same for the other piece of fabric.
3. Sew the edges: Place the right sides of the two pieces of fabric facing each other and start sewing three sides. Leave one side unsewn for filling the pillow.
4. Make the outer fabric: To create the appearance of the pillow, you also need to prepare a piece of outer fabric. Similarly, sew the four sides of the outer fabric with the right sides facing each other, but leave a section unsewn on the last side as a turning opening for easier filling with cotton later.
5. Fill with cotton: Evenly stuff the filling material into the fabric of the pillow until the pillow is plump and has a uniform shape.
6. Sew the turning opening: Fold the turning opening in slightly and then use the invisible stitch to sew it up, ensuring that the filling does not leak out.
7. Finish making: Finally, put the made outer fabric cover on the filled and decorated pillow, and a beautiful handmade pillow is completed.
8. Precautions:
– Ensure accurate measurements and smooth lines during cutting and sewing.
– Use suitable filling materials to ensure the comfort and durability of the pillow.
– Pay attention to safety during sewing and avoid using overly rough techniques that may cause hand injuries.
With simple materials and steps, you can make a practical and beautiful pillow. Such handicrafts can not only add warmth and personality to your home but also allow you to enjoy the fun of creation during the making process. Why not try making a pillow of your own in your spare time?
